Kicker Ramp

Whilst in lockdown I decided I wanted to build a kicker ramp that I could use my bike, scooter and skateboard on. I looked on YouTube for some ideas.

Heart

In the Easter holiday I decided to make something using wood & nails. I sanded the wood, hammered nails into the board and and used string to make a pattern.

Great walton Bake off

It’s all about a balancing act between time, temperature and ingredients: That’s the art of baking.   Peter Reinhart

Despite the shortage of flour and sugar during lock-down, our Walton students have had no trouble showing off their baking skills in the kitchen. Here is a selection of their best work.

inspired fashion: Textiles projects

“Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you.” – Ralph Lauren

Pastry heaven

A sponge is quite simple. You weigh ingredients, mix, and put it in the oven. With pastry, you manhandle it, shape it, fold it. You have to be involved with it; there is more jeopardy, more risk. But it’s like making a casserole. There’s a flurry of activity to begin with; then it’s about leaving it to rest. Paul Hollywood

Despite the lack of flour on our supermarket shelves the following students were able to make some tasty pastry treats.

“Graphic design will save the world right after rock and roll does.” – David Carson

Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships.” – Winona LaDuke

Food for the soul

A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.

Anyone for Eton Mess?

The question, it turns out, isn’t ‘why’ it’s called Eton Mess, but whether it’s actually called ‘Eton Mess’ at all.

.
The generally-accepted story is that the strawberry, meringue and cream pudding was dropped at an Eton v Harrow cricket match in the late 19th century.
Rather than waste the food, it was simply scooped up off the floor and served, smashed to bits, in individual bowls. Country Life

restaurant Design Project using new CAD program

In the new era of fusion cooking and globe-trotting chefs, what makes or breaks a restaurant is not necessarily the food. It’s the design. After all, it’s the architect’s decision on things like decor, lighting effects, and where to place the kitchen that can mean the difference between an enjoyable dining experience or not. Rockwell

Textiles Project

I had made a cushion to welcome my new rescue cat and as you can see in the background (the red cat cushion), he has adopted it! he also likes to rest his head on it when he sleeps.

I made it out of recycled material (an old hoodie) and he loves the fleecy material.

I am very excited to do Textiles next year.

Y7 Automata designs

Cam toys (aka automata) use hand-powered mechanisms to create cyclical motions that animate a scene. Students design and create cam toy machines with moving objects/characters that symbolize abstract concepts and represent dynamic situations.

HOMEMADE REVERSIBLE FACE MASK

Textile Extension Task

This mask cost me nothing to make, I used old unwanted jeans, an old pillowcase, left over interfacing from a previous sewing project and the elastic was taken from an old headband. I really enjoyed making this mask and found the YouTube video very helpful. a great project and so important at this time.

  4. It is so fantastic to see what students can achieve through practical tasks. It seems that we have some very talented students, who are able to problem solve and generate solutions to tasks. These skills will greatly prepare them for adult life. Well done to all.
