Pastry heaven

A sponge is quite simple. You weigh ingredients, mix, and put it in the oven. With pastry, you manhandle it, shape it, fold it. You have to be involved with it; there is more jeopardy, more risk. Anyone for Eton Mess?

The question, it turns out, isn’t ‘why’ it’s called Eton Mess, but whether it’s actually called ‘Eton Mess’ at all.

The generally-accepted story is that the strawberry, meringue and cream pudding was dropped at an Eton v Harrow cricket match in the late 19th century.

Textiles Project

I had made a cushion to welcome my new rescue cat and as you can see in the background (the red cat cushion), he has adopted it! he also likes to rest his head on it when he sleeps.

I made it out of recycled material (an old hoodie) and he loves the fleecy material.

I am very excited to do Textiles next year.

Y7 Automata designs

Cam toys (aka automata) use hand-powered mechanisms to create cyclical motions that animate a scene. Students design and create cam toy machines with moving objects/characters that symbolize abstract concepts and represent dynamic situations.

Textile Extension Task

This mask cost me nothing to make, I used old unwanted jeans, an old pillowcase, left over interfacing from a previous sewing project and the elastic was taken from an old headband. I really enjoyed making this mask and found the YouTube video very helpful. a great project and so important at this time.
